3 or 4 of us are planning to do an aviation pilgrimage during the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain in 2015. (yeah, trying to plan way ahead)
Likely a 7 - 10 day stretch centred around Flying Legends weekend, including the Friday before. Also will look at other museums or air shows in reasonable distance from Duxford area.
Plan to avoid London for the most part, maybe a day trip in to visit RAF museum.
Bottom line is we are looking for a relaxing spot, B & B or country charm type hotel with a friendly pub ……… maybe a pub or two within easy walking distance to spread the business in the evenings ……..
Summary:
WWII aviation + relaxing + pubs+ English rural/small town Charm = bucket list
Recommendations?

Shuttleworth collection is a must.
so many things to do around london (including Hendon)....Can't imagine not spending a few days there to hit the Imperial war museum, HMS Belfast, war rooms, etc etc
RAF museum Cosford is super cool as well...

Most of the areas immediately around Duxford are well booked in advance. I would recommend Cambridge - easy direct train ride from Kings' Cross station in London. There are a ton of B&Bs there and the free shuttle to Duxford on airshow days makes it easy. There are a lot of great pubs in Cambridge including The Eagle that still has graffiti from WWII fliers on the ceiling. Around Duxford there's the Red Lion by the train station, the John Barleycorn where Douglas Bader used to toss back a few with his mates and the Red Lion in nearby Hinxton that I would recommend. I'm staying at the Railway Lodge in Cambridge - 5th Flying Legends in a row for me.
