Avalon 2005.... what's on Warbird wise??

Sun Dec 12, 2004 11:45 pm

Just curious if those in the know might tell us what is being booked for the next Avalon show?
Personally I think the show has stunk the last few times. I like warbirds and the way they have been displayed is pitiful in my book, no disresect meant to the owners/pilots.

Avalon 2005

Hi!

I'm unsure of the position this year regarding Warbird attendance. I'm assuming that the guys from Temora will probably be attending as will the crowd from Tyabb. I notice that the area that was for many years used as a tarmac for the Warbirds is this year reserved for the Shell Air Race participants. The Warbirds are this year down the oposite end of the tarmac (towards the Jetstar terminal).

Now, as for modern military hardware, 2005 is shaping up to be a bit of a treat. A quick check on the 'net shows that the US Embassy is currently arranging logistics support for the following aircraft that will be participating in (or providing support for) the deployment to Avalon:

F-16 x3
F-15 x3
FA-18E/F x2
FA-18D x1
AV-8B x1
EA-6B x1
KC-130 x1
KC-10 x1
C-17 x1
B-52 x1
B-1 x1
F-117 x2
C-5 x1
AH-64 x1
AH-1 x1

A pretty good proposed attendance from our American friends I must say! Lets hope it all comes off and they all make it.

See you at Avalon!

Not a lot!

I woz there. As of yesterday, Wednesday, there was the Wangaratta Wirraway, Matt Denning's Boomer, the Brisbane Sea Fury a scale Spitfire replica, the Ansett DC-3, a cockpit of a Sea Vixen from Queensland Air Museum...

...there will be more, but scuttlebutt says that the Tyabb folks won't be there (no idea if that's correct or not) and it is certain that the Lowey / Temora a/c are NOT attending as their website and e-mail bulletin makes plain. A certain TBM from Queensland is due. Other info seems vague - it's all modern grey stuff as far as I could see.

Of course half the a/c there are based on 20+ year old designs, even though the air farces are operating them, so if you like old stuff there's a lot - Caribou, Hercules, F/A18 (20 years old and proud of it!) etc...

HTH.

The tip is that the Friday night 'night show' with (at least) the F-111 'Dump n' burn' of the RAAF F-111 and the 'wall of fire' is worth turning up for. The HARS Connie might show, but I don't have any reliable info.

I'll be there Friday, Sat n' Sun. The perils of a press pass!

Cheers

And the Wangaratta P-40 was at the press day (local press, Melb) in the hands of Gus, so SHOULD be down for the weekend. a 'new' scheme was spoken of but it wasn't on it on the press day AFAK.

Jeez,
not real enticing for me by the looks, the only thing that really interests me is the P40, that would be a lot of crap to go through just for that. The modern stuff just doesn't grab me really.
thanks anyway
