World War II-era planes on display as part of “Living History” tour

Aviation buffs: A “living history” display of three World War II-era bomber aircraft, including a famed B-17 Flying Fortress, is scheduled to be open to the public beginning May 1 and continuing through May 5 near Long Beach Airport.

The “Wings of Freedom Tour,” sponsored by the non-profit educational Collings Foundation, will be located on the grounds of Signature Flight Support, 3333 E. Spring St. in Long Beach.

The planes scheduled to be on display include a North American P-51 Mustang, a B-17 Flying Fortress and a Consolidated B-24 Liberator. Also, a Messerschmitt ME 262 may make an appearance during the tour.

Public walk-through tours are available for $12 for adults and $6 for children 12-years-old and younger. Tour times are 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on May 1; and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 2-May 5.

For information about the Wings of Freedom Tour, the Collings Foundation, and on limited times to take flights on the visiting planes, visit www.cfdn.org or call (800) 568-8924.
