Hey Rob,
Why do you post this with such short notice?
Valentine's Day is only like two weeks away!

Winter stuff is out for me, but a late spring visit to NEAM would be fun.

remember is only stops snowing in the summer!

I'd like to get back down there, I haven't seen the B-29 in several years.

Right now Maine is a bit far to travel for me.

It stops snowing a bit before that Tim, I just can't count on it doing that. My on call status does not end until April 1 and it is possible for it to snow well past that mark (though that does not seem likely this winter).

On the subject of NEAM's B-29, apparently your not the only one who has not seen it in awhile Tim. I just looked it up on the registry and see that we need to get Scott over there to get some up to date pictures. He needs some after shots to go with those befores. :D

Rob.

Much as I would like to come up to Owls Head (it's been way to long), I can't see a way clear to do it before summer, if then. However a day trip down to NEAM is possible at most anytime once the weather makes it's final turn to sunshine and warm days. I'll keep an eye out here and see what you guy's decide.

An April WIX gathering at NEAM would be excellent. As for the B-29, I have some pics from the last gathering but haven't updated the entry yet. I will see if I can do that in the next couple of days though I do want to take new pictures with the new camera. They come out so much better. Also, if you all come to NEAM bring your copies of Warbird Digest and Classic Wings, We'll do a group picture of us all reading them ;)

Feb and March are bad for me. April is better. I also think a NEAM trip is more centrally located for our New York Wixers.

Hey,
I dunno if this is worthwhile for you guys...

THE ICE RUNWAY IS OPEN!

If you have never seen this it is wonderful. the Fly in is sunday Feb, 19th.
A 3500 ft. runway is plowed out in Alton Bay on Lake Winnepesaukee in NH. Last year we missed the Fly in day, but we did go there on Valentines Day. There were 14 airplanes on the ice that day and you could buy a ride in a Cherokee if you needed one. The resturant there is really cool and there are snowobiles all over the lake also. This months Sport Aviation has a great article on the "Only Ice Airport"

See You there!

What is a Owl head? Some time I would not mind taking a run up to Acadia (sp?) National Park. Might make a good bonus to the trip.

The answer is...

Owl's Head Tranportation Museum, located at the fine Rockland International Airport. Rockland, ME
Just a little east of the airport is Owl's Head and Owl's head lighthouse
Its a penninsula not a body part!

I think the most interesting thing I saw on that airport is what a guy at the FBO on the other side of the airport has in his hangar.

In the front corner of the hangar was a kiddie pool with 2 turtles in it.
Frank said in a really heavy Downeast accent "They are the best pets you could ever have, all they do is turn lettuce into crap"

April 30th sounds good to me Rob. I'll be looking forward to going to Cracker Barrel for a Momma's Pancake Breakfast :D from now till then.

Also by that time the truck fairy will have waved her magic wand and turned my plow truck into a garbage truck  .

At least they don't call you out in the middle of the night to pick up rubbish  .
