Another B-25 post here.

I'm just curious how many surviving B-25's are ex-RCAF.

I know there's a couple in Canada, but like the big P-40 sale at Patricia Bay after WWII, I figure there were a lot of B-25's sold to private hands in the USA post WWII.

Is anyone out there operating an ex-RCAF Mitchell? Or has seen any?

By the way, on the warbirdregistry, I came across B-25J 44-29128 that appears to be ex-RCAF and is now on a pole in Mexico City. Does anyone have any pictures?

Thanks,

David

The Aerovintage ite can give more details.

One correction: The present CWH Mitchell flying as "Grumpy" is NOT ex TFC! That one - the original Grumpy - is still parked in UK.

I'll check further details coming weekend

Coert,

I didn't say the CWH Grumpy was ex-TFC. The ex-TFC Grumpy is was a RCAF Mitchell II. The CWH Grumpy did not serve with the RCAF and is a B-25J. Is the ex-TFC Grumpy still owned by Vulcan Warbirds or has it moved on?

However, I hear the CWH Grumpy may not be grumpy much longer. We can only hope...

Hi Jim, my mistake! Sorry for that. As far as I know, the ex-TFC Mitchell is still in UK and on the US register, owned by VULCAN WARBIRDS INC.
Kind regards
C

Gentlemen,

I believe the B-25 at the USMC air museum at Quantico, VA may be ex- RCAF. I have a photo of it in RCAF markings.

Norman,

I can't say for sure, as I'm not 100% sure about Quantico's B-25s, but I think that is the plane now at Miramar. It was at Quantico in the late 70s/early 80s.

They were talking about changing the nose art last winter, however I think it will actually happen this winter. Keep your eyes open gentlemen!

Id like to see her in a new scheme. :D

I think its good to change markings on an aircraft that has been in the same scheme for almost 10 to 15 years.

Actually CWH's has only been Grumpy for a few years, it used to be Hot Gen, but this was considered politically incorrect, so they changed it.

So, I've looked into that B-25 (44-29128, RCAF 5236) I mentioned was on a pole in Mexico City, and found it on Google Earth.

Luckily, it's got a couple friends to keep it company.

I wonder what kind of condition it's in.

Cheers,

David

There's a good photo of the Chapultepec Park B-25 in Scott Thompson's book B-25 Mitchell in Civil Service that was taken by my late friend, Jose Salinas, back in '88. I have a couple more photos of it someplace buried in the rest of my junk...
