My old flight engineer buddy was driving through Moncure North Carolina and swears he saw a Japanese fighter in someones back yard. I google mapped it and it sure enough looks real to me. If this is an old or debunked topic I apologize, I searched the archives with no luck. Address was 4052 Corinth Rd Moncure N.C. thoughts???

Well now, that is certainly an interesting find. Looks like on Oscar, but what could it be? Real? Replica? Art piece "Bubba" made in the backyard? Having a hard time finding it on Google Maps.

That's 45 minutes from me. I checked the address on Google Maps and it gave me a swampy area off Corinth Rd.

Can you zoom out and give me some more clues? I'll be happy to drive down and check it out.

Cheers!

Moncure is a rural location in the US South. And you don't go nosing around a Southerner's property without permission. So hopefully somebody knows more.

Original Japanese wrecks are documented so I cannot think of a reason for it to be in that rural area. The property borders a river, so probably swampy and heavily wooded and trees are beginning to leaf out for Spring.

Google has a pretty good high-res satellite image for that area. Based on the address I've studied the properties for about 10 minutes and I'm not seeing it. I am seeing a lot of junker cars and trailer homes along with some houses and commercial properties. I don't see anything that could be verified with driving by a location. My eyes are tired so maybe someone else can study the Google satellite.

As were sure that this image is real? And when was it taken?

(Sorry for the double-post. Local internet is acting up.)

Bingo! Thanks I see it on the satellite.

From the street view that looks like a shotgun and pit bull greeting. Someone local with a drone camera could probably help too.

Great work on location clarification!

I'll take a drive down there tomorrow and take a look - Safely and with proper respect for property, dogs and shotguns.

I also bring my longest lens for photos and beer for barter. :drink3:

Cheers

Studying the plane a little more and it looks a little out of scale in relationship to nearby vehicles in the satellite photo. For reference I think the standard secondary paved highway width there is 32 feet. The wingspan for the Oscar is 35 feet 7 inches so it's close.

That looks like an old logging road just to the East, now with tracks from ATV riders. I see timber / logging property just to the South. Not many places to sneak in without stepping on a snake or other varmit.

Does it look like the wings are off in the Google Earth pic from 4/2013?

Japanese sleeper cell from the war I suspect...

You might call the fire station and ask them about it.
