Pretty sure that wasn't the only thing he was unhappy about. Remember hearing he was displeased with the amount of, or lack of, air time allotted for the WWI planes.

I'm just finishing hand splicing the brake cables for the Boeing 100 for Roy, so it's getting down to the last little details.
I think Kermit will be back at Oshkosh with something eventually, but if the 100 is delivered to Florida that would be a long flight for it. I don't think he'll ship stuff there anymore because of damage to one of the WW1 airplanes, and I don't think the complaint was lack of airtime but that he didn't like the grass landing area they had laid out.

I think it is too bad that there is not a suitable grass strip at Oshkosh.
I was seriously considering bringing my Tiger Moth for the RAF 100, but I would have had to arrive at the pioneer strip at least three days before the whole event started. As someone pointed out, if I want to have my Tiger at Osh, I should leave now

Need a front seat driver to go with you? I've been meaning to make Oshkosh!

One of EAA's ongoing projects is the acquisition of an adjoining piece of land for a grass strip during the show. As I recall, it was to be to the SE corner of the field. I learned this in a conversation with EAA staff around a year ago. I do not know how far they have progressed, but my sense at the time was they might have it available in 2020 or 2021, although they were coy with actual timing. They were convinced they had the land deals worked out.

Fact check:

In July of 2011, Mr. Weeks was part of the flight crew that brought his recently-purchased C-47, N1944A, to Oshkosh following a trans-Atlantic ferry. Various delays (as reported by Mr. Weeks himself in the following link) resulted in the aircraft arriving four days late for Airventure. The C-47 remained on display at the museum until the following spring.

Kermit brought his P-51D to Oshkosh in 1999 and his P-51C in 2001, following the completion of each of those restorations, both of which won WWII Grand Champion. He brought his B-25J, following restoration, in 2002, which won WWII Reserve Grand Champion (Ken Wagnon's P-51D "Cripes A' Mighty" won Grand Champion that year). All three were California restorations.

I recall in the videos he's done in the last couple years on his A-26 restoration at Aero Trader, that it sure seems like he intends on bringing it to Oshkosh when it's done.

When the Martin Mars arrived at Oshkosh that year, Kermit was trained and onboard. It flew a lot that week. I estimated that it cost $100 to $200k in fuel that week. It has four huge engines and is really slow and traveled a long way. I always thought Kermit was the “ magic” that got that airplane there to be enjoyed by all.

One thing that really stood out to me about the arrival of the Martin Mars was when Kermit said "I'll probably be the only person ever, to arrive at Oshkosh in two different four engined flying boats"
No doubt.

Looks like another good possibility might be Lockheed Model 10A #1145, being restored at Hawk Aero Ltd. Fuel calibration tests were completed earlier this month. Owner Rob Mackley is on record stating his intent to eventually fly the Electra from NZ to Oshkosh for AirVenture.
