Just spotted this link through the H.A.M.B. hot rod board; can anyone ID this engine?

Unless it's from a civil Fairchild 24, I guess it would be off a PT-19.
Were there any engine variations between various types?

JohnB - in the midst of our air show but yes, short answer:

Ranger 6-440, military L-440 basic designation
6-440C-2, L-440-1, 175 hp, 65-octane
6-440C-3, 180 hp, 72-octane
6-440C-4, 190 hp, 80-octane
6-440C-5, L-440-3, 200 hp, 87-octane

all at 2,450 r.p.m.

Reference page 109, Aircraft Engines of the World 1944 by Paul H. Wilkenson, 1941. Most PT-19 and PT-26 these days have the 200 hp engine fitted, to the best of my knowledge. Ours does at the High Sky Wing, CAF, Midland, Tx.

Hope that helps. Randy
