On the corner of S. Wilmot and E. Drexel Road, there is supposed to be an old RU-8D (US Army Beechcraft Twin Bonanza) that was there as recently as one year ago.

Google Maps is showing it still there, but Bing Maps shows it gone and in its place are two Convair C-131’s?

If anyone can help me solve the mystery of where our RU-8D went I’d appreciate it. Finally have the money to save it and after sitting there for 38 years, it’s gone?

When I was there last spring, these two Convairs were in the fence

and the twin Bonanza was outside the fence right beside the road

Yikes! Thanks for the pic! Looks like it just got booted out, and I just looked at a recent aerial shot, I think the wings have been taken off at the fuselage, it's gone for sure now! :(

Oddly enough my brother-in-law, who works at DM, sent me a photo of this bird a couple months ago asking if I could identify it. Neither he, nor anyone else that he works with, knew what it was. I called him last night to get an update and he confirmed that the airframe has been scrapped.

Thank you for that news, might there be anything left, a data plate, anything?

He mentioned that there was possibly a wing panel left but was not sure. I can ask him if he is able to have a look around for what remains.

If he can track down the fuselage that would be great too, in addition to the data plate, it'd be nice to get the mission gear rack as well, but even the extended wingtips or dipole antennas would be of value

My brother-in-law said he is sure at least one wing, and possibly both, are still on site. He is going to try and run by in the morning and take a picture of whatever is left. I'll post said picture when I get it.

Stay tuned...

No, those are the Seminole wings. They're too small for Harpoon or Lodestar wings and you can see the RU-8 antenna sticking up from the tip of the wing that is leaning back on its trailing edge.

Thank you C VEICH, if your Contact or anyone else in the area knows where the fuselage ended up please let me know!

Also, if the wings are out in the open, outside the wire, are they free for the picking?

57-6063 in better days.
