You guys tired of Corsairs yet? (or any type for that matter) don't worry there's only a finite number of old airplane photos floating around the world. I'm only half way there  You modelers shouldn't have a problem finding some neat schemes these days. Sources SDASM archives, NMNA archives, Museum of Congress archives.

Okay, now I have to know what's going on here. There is plenty of perfectly good water around that carrier for a PBM to land.
(Any chance we can see some Mariner pics?)

This was one of two FG-1D's which collided over Lake Washington. Both were recovered in similar condition. I'm not sure exactly which this one is, but it's either Bu.88368 which was comsmetically restored, and is now on the USS Yorktown at Patriot's Point in South Carolina, or Bu.88382 which was beautifully restored to static condition, and is now at the Museum of Flight in Seattle, Washington.

Cheers,
Richard

The aircraft in the Lake Washington recovery photo is FG-1D 88368 based on other phtographs I have of 88382 during its recovery. By comparing tail sections and paint on the latter is how I determined this.

F4U Chino isn't! No hangars or buildings like that ever on the field that I am aware of. Also, is that a Japanese tank in the background?

Might want to have a closer look @ the PBM's on the INTREPID (CV-11) at least the closer one appears to have a nose wheel and doors which would make it one of the 36 PBM-5A's built.
