Greetings,

Peter Jackson's new King Kong movie debuted today here in Wellington, NZ and on display was one of his amazing replica Curtiss Helldivers that feature in the movie.

I hope you enjoy the pics.

It's my understanding that NASM wants one of his Helldivers to display.

Mudge the informant
(Informant? Does that sound right? :D )

I heard a rumor that the NHC is filing suit against Peter Jackson to reclaim ownership of this F8C; apparently, he obtained information on this aircraft from a book without obtaining permission from the NHC to read said book.

Ok, I'm kidding, but only partially. I wouldn't put such a retarded move past them. On a more friendly note, that's an outstanding replica, and perhaps we should get some movers and shakers in Hollywood to convince Peter Jackson to do a film on Midway... and have the same builders construct equally convincing replicas of TBDs, since the NHC refuses to pull their heads out of their collective behinds regarding recovery of actual aircraft.

Not that I'm still bitter about that or anything... ;)

That's a non-flying job, right?

It really looks like a real airplane!

 8)

How many variations of the Biplane Helldiver were they? I don't have a reference book on 30's Naval aircraft, but just digging through the internet the closest plane I've found to this one is the Curtiss Falcon. Looks like there were inline engined Falcons too but they didn't look as good. As easy as some things are on the 'net, I can't seem to find a site that has pictures of all of the 30's Curtiss military aircraft. Just a picture or two here and there and my work computer won't let me do an direct image search. O K. Finally got home and did an image search and found just a few shots of this version of the Helldiver. Question: What's the difference between the late model Falcon and this version of the Helldiver?
