I never knew B-26's carried torpedoes.

I never knew they had a gun position in the bottom of the aft fuselage. That is a gun position, correct?

Come to think of it, I never knew a lot about the B-26 at all. I do know of their high speed and high accident rate though.

If you can find someone crazy enough to fly it!

The picture of Willie the Wolf reminded me of a gentleman named Art Kramer who used to post on Rec.Aviation.Military and who served as bombadier on that aircraft. He had some interesting stories to share...

The pic of the B-26s on the ramp is likely taken at Middle River or Langley Field. In 1941 there was a shortage of Curtiss Electric propellers. When the planes were completed, they were flown to Langley Field. The propellers were removed, put on a specially designed trailer, and towed back to Middle River to be put on the next B-26 to be flown down...note the B-26s without propellers in the picture.

Those are great! The Maurader is one good looking plane when it takes to the skies in my humble opinion. Its too bad there are so few of them around today and the one combat vet isn't even together in one piece!

Now that you mention it, I vaguely remember hearing that someone did that somewhere. I have to wonder how Mr. Muri was able to get any airplane into the air with all that extra weight he must have had between his legs. I didn't know it was a B-26 though. Thanks for the info.

Destroyed when a German Ju 88 crashed on it on March 22,1944.

Did this occur while the B-26 was on the ground?

That's some interesting lettering on the 42nd BW photos (Part 6 of 6), are they from some sort of squadron history book or something?

Here are some details on the B-26 waist gun position.

This is a page from the B-26 Pilot Training Manual showing the crew positions.
