The low ceiling is forecast to break up about 11 am. Whatever time Ma Nature sees fit to comply with this request is when it will start. The DC-3, 1929 Travelair, T-6, and helicopters will be giving rides in the order in which they were scheduled. All other vintage aircraft will be flying in as the weather permits. Sunshine expected before noon. The B25, Huey and P51 will be on static display. Display cars are already arriving. Other vendors are setting up for a 9 am opening. Come on out! JR

Spring Fling was a huge success. Lots of people came out today to Meacham and it was just great to see everybody. The picture of the little guy looking up for the airplanes just says it all. Many families came, and the parking at the terminal with our "Deuce" going back and forth as a shuttle worked purty good. Not a lot of people can say they have ridden in a VN era Deuce!! The clouds let up about 11 as requested from Ma Nature and the flying began shortly after. The DC3 was making an almost endless turn around with full or nearly full flights. The others did quite well also. The Stearman was more popular than expected. Lots of great cars showed up and the various clubs were well represented. They sure sounded great. Overall, we are very pleased with the success and hope to do it again. It would be a great way to end the summer and start the cooler Fall season I think. More pics will be posted soon. This just in from CNN... breaking news... It has long been rumored and suspected that certain people fly on brooms. At Spring Fling yesterday at Meacham, positive photographic evidence was finally collected as the entity can be seen passing thru the propellor of the B25 Pacific Prowler. A technical review by forensic experts has shown that the photo was not retouched or photoshopped. This is amazing. If you missed Spring Fling yesterday, you missed out on history in the making. This is huge... up there with the Apollo landings on the moon and the search for Amelia. If only the photographer had waited a split second later for the face to be discernible...... I dont know what looks rattier, that black push me pull you, or that worn out broom? Both look like that have been rode hard and put up wet!

Yep, that would be her. In the two days we were there, we spent about 15 hours in the museum. She enjoyed ever minute of it. She's still talking about it. She loves history and there's lots of it there. I'll bet the price of this tire would make one for Special Kay seem to be a real bargin!!

I see no evidence of her ever riding a broom..... hmmmm...??? Oh wait, I get it.. April Fool's. You almost got me. She is way too nice to you..... Just better hope she doesn't see your remark or you may find out for real when you wake up with a pox all over you!! The price of a tire for the K right now is running about $3500 unmounted. Wow, I wonder if they can even find a B-36 tire anymore?? We got two new main tires, but are still looking for a good nose tire. There are some diamond treads out there, but that would not be appropriate for the era of the K. They are 36SC's and are used on the nose gears of the A-26, B-24, B-29 and as the mains for the P-38. If anybody knows a source, please let me know... Thanks!! JR

Well, the time is up. We had no winners in figuring out the connection between Gen. Custer and the adoption of the Star Spangled Banner as the National Anthem. Here 'tis.... After the loss of Gen. Custer and those units of the 7th Cavalry who were with him on the north end of the battlefield of the Little Big Horn River in Montana, those troops who were with Major Reno and Captain Benteen and survived on the southern end were moved to an area on the northeast corner of the Black Hills in S. Dakota. Yes, that's right.. not all of the 7th Cav was lost and in fact, the majority of it was still intact. They were given the task of building a fort which became known later as Fort Meade. The town of Sturgis grew up not far from the camp. Still with me so far? In 1892, the wife of the post commander, Col. Carlton, suggested the Star Spangled Banner would make a good tune for the post's flag retreat in the evening. Being a good husband, he took the suggestion.. kinda like Randy taking the suggestion to go see the AF Museum... anyway, other commanders saw the ceremony and the practice soon spread. After awhile, the Secretary of War heard it and then put out orders for all military posts.. including the Navy.. to use the Star Spangled Banner in such manner. Finally, Congress caught up to adopt the National Anthem in 1931. Incidentally, the last survivor of Custer's units on the north end was a badly wounded horse named "Comanche". He was taken to Ft. Meade and treated like royalty for many years. He was later moved to Ft. Riley, Kansas, to spend the rest of his days. He was one of only two horses given full military honors upon his passing. And now you know the rest of the story!! JR

While we are at it, what is the connection between South Dakota and the K? See if we have any detectives who can figure this one out??

Plan A was to bring the ratty old black O-2 of which DZ speaks; then get tractor and bring it with the witchy conveyance.......How could the Spring Fling handle a pilot with three modes of travel in one place????? But the ratty old black bird decided it didn't want to fly anymore until I dumped a bunch of green backs into its Lord Mounts............so just for The Other JR's amusement I arrived with the other two steeds (Plan B).........and he wasn't even there to see.......but that is another story and will require a lunch to be provided later to ease the temper tantrums.

And Randy, what a nice wife you have.....I'm so glad she enjoyed the AF museum!!!!!
