some updates concerning the Buchon project. Work on the wings ....

the wing is prepared for the paint shop

dismantling the other winghalf. Juergen is showing the "actuator" of the radiator flaps. Not really simple ....

Noordyn AT-16, D-FRCP - also some updates to that project .... they checked and checked and checked .... it will be a complete restauration. The trainer is now completely dismantled

Elmar Meier is checking the tubulare frame with ultrasonic. With that technique its perfect to detect any damages

In my almost 39 years as a machinist ,making parts, assembling, and ordering bearings,seals , gearing etc. and I'm not taking anything from meier motors as I see their work is outstanding, but in one photo of parts awaiting assembly of the airframe it shows ball bearings being used. I'm wondering why the ball bearings used are not the sealed or shielded type? Is it because of they have to be because that's how they were first built? It would seem that sealed brngs that have the lube built in or even shielded bearings to protect the balls and races would be a better choice. Or is it because that size bearing isn't offered sealed or shielded? Just an observation and in no way a knock on Meier Motors and their beautiful work

Thanks for the update on the Buchon. I like the Zlin in the background and I really like that Chevy pick-up! Wow, how does an old good 'ole boy pick-up end up in Germany?!

Thanks for the update on the Buchon. You and the rest of the gang seem to be building up some steam on rebuilding her. By the painting starting, has there been a paint scheme picked or is this just a prime coat for now? As always thanks for the updates.

As you might know, the MeierMotors aircraft is one part of the story, the other part is restoring classic cars. The Team needed a new van/transporter to transport "bits & pieces" and everyon in the Team thought "§Oh sugar a Volkswagen Transporter, or a Mercedes Sprinter". A few days later, Achim&Elmar came along and said to the team "Hey boys, outside stands our new transporter" ..... the team was a bit shocked to see the old Apache, and I tell you, it was not a beauty Queen and I think no one was interested in driving that wreck. Ralf the man in the paint shop said "omg, thats a lot of work" and a few months later, the Chevy is a beautiful restored jewel and I think everyone in the shop wants to ride that beauty :supz:

That is Meier brothers live , they really rock :supz:

Btw in the shop there is a Porsche 356 and about 3 pretty old Harley Davidson .... I will keep you informed

Common for the bearings to be that way from that time period. The Spitfire is full of open bearings as well.
If maint programs are followed cleaning, inspecting and reapplying grease is pretty easy.
US design requirements are different. Seal the bearing and make it last a long time without the same need for hands on maint. Insp and change if needed.
