Hi guys,

I just started my research into standard USAF aircraft colors and markings. Since WWII the USAAF/USAF mostly used Technical Orders to specify the colors and markings used on their aircraft. There is lots of information on the 1941-1945 period and some information on the 1980-present day period, but I'm looking for information on the "in-between-period". I'm specially interested in the early releases (1964-1970) of Tech Order 1-1-4. And was wondering which Tech Orders were used in the period 1947 till 1957. And I'm looking for copies of the T.O.s. Any information is much appreciated.

Thanks...

There is been a good deal of interest in the subject of late, but not all of the pieces have fallen into place. Here is a response to a similiar question on ARC:

"There are several Tech Orders that might be of interest: TO 1-1-81, TO 07-1-1 (late 40's), TO 1-1-636 (1956) and finally the priginal TO 1-1-4 published in 1964. They all lead up to what became TO 1-1-4, but so far I have yet to locate copies. I have tried the NASM, National Archives and the Air Force Historical Research Cent. I am sure they are out there somewhere, but..." And that stll holds true. I have contacted the NASM without any response and the AFHRC at Maxwell AFB (who reffered me to the NASM) and the National Archives (who reffered me to the AFHRC). So in short, I am still looking. Maybe they are out there in PDF form somewhere. They must be out there somewhere in hard copy, but so far no joy."

IPMS UK has the 1964 and 1978 editions of the T.O. 1-1-4 on their website: http://www.usaf-sig.org/index.php/downl ... gs-related The 1978 version is broken up into ten downloads.

Wow thanks Clifford, the 1964 copy of TO 1-1-4 is a new one for me. I tried to contact the same institutions, with the same results.
When was TO 1-1-81 in use? And do you know in which TO 1-1-4 they (re)introduced camouflage?
Thanks
