Just heard about this freak accident. Alan Henley was hurt when a chin-up bar broke loose in his home. He's in serious, but stable condition.

Best wishes to speedy recovery!

Repost from another message board:

Quote:
Hello all!

Thank you all for your wonderful thoughts and prayers. Alan is resting in the TBICU unit waiting for surgery in the morning. He is still paralyzed from the chest down and we do know there is a significant amount of damage to his spinal cord. My friend is creating a blog at www.caringbridge.org and type in AlanHenley which will give updates of his condition. I think there is a link to this on our website as well, www.naat.net.

I apologize for not returning so many calls but we have been incredibly busy but I do appreciate every call, email and mostly all of the prayers. This what we need the most. The next 72 hours are the most crucial right now. We pray that God will give Alan the strength to get up, walk on his own two feet and be back in his cockpit in our near future.

Jennifer, Skylar and Brandon Henley

OMG!

I was fairly well acquainted with the Henley brothers while I worked at the Birmingham Southern Museum of Flight (I left SMF in 2003), and Alan and his brother Mark (who bases his #2 AeroShell T-6G at the local Bessemer airport), along with their late father Tom were/are SMF board members. I've flown with both brothers, and personally they are both super guys and gifted pilots.

As I work on my paintings in my studio I always look forward to hearing the roar of Alan's SNJ and Mark's T-6 - they practice together semi-regularly in this area. We're spoiled - they usually fly right over my house going back and forth to Bessemer ... though Alan bases his Six at their farm in west Alabama.

They run BEBCO - Birmingham Electric Battery Co. - here in B'ham. Tell you what - Alan's at UAB, and that's one of the top research and critical care hospitals in the world ... I'm quite sure he's in the best possible hands.

God willing, he'll be back in that SNJ leading the team once again.

Wade

that sucks. My instructor knows him and was going to get checked out in a t-6 by Mr. Alan. My prayers go out to him and his family.

My prayers are with Alan. I don't know him well, but he has always been a nice guy and a super pilot.

My best wishes for a full & speedy recovery. I was fortunate enough to spend some time with my old buddy Steve Gustafson, & the Aeroshell Team last year here in Atlanta. I had not met Alan before, but he was as nice as if he had known me for a long time. My prayers are with him & his family.

I sure hope that he will fully recover.

Spain Rehab Center @ UAB is one of the best places for Spinal Cord Injury rehabilitation. He is and will be in good hands.

I have been checking on Alan through the Caring Bridge website, & he is still having a lot of problems. He has been through several surgeries/procedures, & he not doing too good. Problems with fever & fluid in the lungs. Please keep him in your thoughts & prayers.

Alan's spinal injury is at the C-2 and C-3 verterbrae. Worst possible place for it to happen.
