P-40K Warhawk #15 "Scatterbrain" 7th FS 49th FG covered with oil after Lt Succop got a little close while downing a Oscar and a Lily bomber over New Guinea May 15, 1943. Note the Aussies assisting in ready the Warhawk for it's next mission.

"Scatterbrain"...interesting play on words.

As one word it could be a noun describing the pilot.
But notice it's painted on the cowling with a slight separation, as if forecasting what he hoped to do with all those .50 calibers: "Scatter brain". :gib:

That is oil on the cowling, right?

was it unusual for aircraft to have different tyres? for some reason i thought that they would be replaced in pairs.

When you're where they are you use what's available.
Note the oil on the verticle and the wing leading edges!

They both look round to me!
If you operate from asphalt the L/H tire will wear faster as torque on takeoff pushes left wing lower and aircraft will track to the left side unless right rudder is used.
Tires are known as a on condition item. If they are good you go, bad you replace. On most warbirds you can replace single tires. Many large modern aircraft with multiple tires on each landing gear there are other rules from the airframe and tire manufactures that must be followed. Usually you must replace both tires on the same landing gear.
