Hi Bdk

Yes, the friction is glued and riveted and could be easilty replaced.
Unfortunately, the disc itself is worn in the center part. Otherwise, we have various small companies who perform exchange : you send the used disc and they send you a refurnished one with new frictions
But seeing the state of our disc, they refused and send us back the old disc: I keep searching, I will find :-)

Hello,

Probably a good time for a small update after two months.

Not a lot of "visual" progress to show, but we worked, step by step. ;-)

First, after weeks of search, we sourced a replacement for the clutch:

Left the refurbnished one, right the old one.

New bearings on the "flywheel" (correct word ?)
Image

And we put back the gearbox : not an easy task to put everything lined when you work under a car, so no pictures were taken :D

The seats came back from the upholsterer (correct word ? :? )
Image

And we spend the last few weeks, rewiring the whole car, fortunatly the wirind schema is very very simple

Looking good! It's amazing how even "simple" wiring can be complicated.

Hello,

Nothing to show yet but yesterday was an important milestone on our little projet, as after a close check of the car the last week, we started the engine for the first time since the beginning of the restoration. As everything looks to be ok we took the old girl for a little walk outside.

Excepted the engine who will require tweaking on the carburator and on the ignition, the first test was a sucess and a fun moment after close to three years of work.
My father and me, we don't have a lot of experience in mechanic, so for us, it's a real challenge to bring this car in running condition.

Various things are still ahead: work on the brakes, the engine and lots and lots of cosmetic work.

If you are interested, I will try to post a short movie of the first start and drive.

Regards, thanks for your interest.

You are right about the smell: it was fun to smell the difference between the static car and now the "living car". The good smell of hot oil

Fantastic! That first start is always a thrill. You really get a feel for how small the car is relative to American cars of the same vintage in the video.

Even my 41 years newer Austin-Healey has a certain smell to it. Whenever my daughter and I come back from riding in it, my wife always complains that we smell. I keep trying to explain to her it's a good smell!

An unusual pilot bushing/bearing in the flywheel they are mostly just sintered bronze in older American cars since they just keep the end of the pilot(input) shaft from thrashing around. Is that the original style seat fabric?Wool wears like iron and you won't slide all over like you do on leather.
Want a wiring diagram? You should see the one in the shop manual for my Victory VISION motorcycle  it resembles the org chart for the Army, and on the next page...........
I'll wager that you spent all evening grinning like a mule eating salt brier after getting it started.

Sad to see the last message of "The Inspector", knowing I wll be unnable to answer to it.
He showed real interest in our little and personnal project...

A short update by the way, we are currently working on the brakes of the car:
Dismantling them:
Image
And sending them to be refurbished with new "frictions" (correct word ?)
Image

All the cables of the brakes were removed and new ones will be done in the coming days.

After that and after fixing a bunch of small problems still in our "to do list" we hope to be able to bring the car to the technical inspection required to register her in the Old Timers category.

Regards

Iclo

Not a lots of things to report because we are stuck in an administrative trouble.

We finished the brakes and prepared the car for examination and registration but we have a problem with the serial of the car : the rules from the responsible authorities say that we are 100% legal and fine, but the private company certified to examine the cars here, said they refuse to follow these rules.
They agree that the rules say "ok", but say the rules theirself are not "ok".

That could be a funny story if we are not blocked.

Regards

If there is some people still interested: after a few weeks of wait, negociations, mails, phone calls, visit of various administation, etc, etc, we went to the technical control of the car (for the third times) and this time everything was ok. pfffffffuuuuuuuuu

We have now only to wait to receive the registration number, before starting driving on open road.

Of course, there is still a lot of work on the car to finish its restoration, but it's a chapter who come to a end.

It's true. When we starded the process, we were thinking it will be done in one or two weeks, it's was close to 3 months ago, and compared to other people in the same situation, it was short.

Yesterday I went to the administration to fill the registration form. I was very surprised when the employer asked me : "It's a B14F or a B14G ? because it's not specified on the current french registration card ?"
Since that, I wonder if this people really known this kind of car, or the software they use is smart enough to know the two sub model of this car and sugested him the question

We hope to be able to do short road trip in the coming days, but we know that we have some issues with the engines: backfire, lost of power and a massive oil leaks. So we are close the end of the restoration.

By the way, registering the car is a good step to achieve.
