Stunning recording: WWII Lancaster crew chatter during a bomb run..

in Featured Article, War Articles / by Jack / on August 13, 2012 at 13:19 /

A real chance to time travel with this short bit of chatter over the radio from a Lancaster bomber crew on a bombing run. At about 45 seconds in a German plane on the their tail fires at them. You hear the return fire, and the tension and excitement in their voices as the gunner reports he shot the German down. Then the captain then steadies them.

Their inflections and speaking patterns are interesting. Very civilized and proper seeming. I wonder how much cussing you would hear on such a recording today? It sounds as it isn’t a 100% British crew…
