Too many tool boxes?

Wed Jul 20, 2011 9:54 pm

I have this sickness.... my 1000sqft garage is FULL of tools.. so uch so that when I found this for sale for $100 I left it there because there wasn't room for another toolbox in my garage...

Then just as I got home I had an epiphany..... so 2 weeks later I'm back at the swap meet & it's still there. We haggle & I wheel it away for $75...

Then I start to clean it up...

Image

but then decide on powdercoat.... I get a quote for $250 so away it goes.... Today I get a call to tell me to come get it.....

Antique silver carcass & gloss black hammertone on the drawers....

Ended up paying $80 plus some (free to me) ammo for the powder coating..

But there's still no room in the garage & this is where the epiphany comes into play...

:supz: I LOVE IT! :supz:
Take my advice, find a mate who likes that kinda decor. At my wifes request we mounted a 100# bomb casing onto the living room entertainment center. That's when you know you have a good one LOL

I have a German 88 shell above the fireplace, between 2 Wright 1820 master rods :)

That box looks very nice ZRX! I need to refinish mine (it had a slight accident when my dad was trying to move it a couple times.) Of course I also really need to clean mine out a bit as well. I've still got a lot of farm parts in it from before my dad retired from farming 8+ years ago.

When I got to the photo of after you had it powdercoated, I thought "now it looks too nice to keep tools in..." Scrolled down to the end, and I guess you felt the same way :D

Cool! Looks great. I didn't realize they could powdercoat in hammertone.

A) I'm shocked and a bit upset that anyone could think they had too many toolboxes
B) I always wanted a house with a fireplace because a pair of 1820 Master Rods would make killer andirons to hold logs
That is one clever idea and not a bad use of a MAC rollaway

The end of hearth is currently home to a carb from an R2800 :)

I sure hope that I haven't been zapped by the tool box virus, but...

Earlier in June, I bought a roller with a tool chest [Brand new], then I bought the hand-made roller tool box from and aviation mechanic, and this past Saturday, I got -cheap- a 1950s Snap-op roller, with tool chest. It has surface rust, and I have already sent it to the shop, to have it sandblasted, and then it will be painted.

This tool box combination, is HEAVY, built of heavy gauge steel...

Saludos,

Tulio

VERY cool box, Tulio! :supz: Since I found my early '50s Craftsman roller and top box a few months ago, I am fascinated with vintage tools and boxes. THAT'S what I need around here - another collection.

Whatever you do, don't visit garagejournal.com, or the hook will be set for sure ...

If there is a twelve step program for this... I am a candidate :D :D

On Tuesday, I bought quite another roller tool box, loaded with tools. Total price paid: $50.00

I was going to send it to the shop, to have it sandblasted and painted, but decided instead, to give it to a good friend.
The tools were a mishmash, some good ones, some not so. But there were easily 20 different types of hammers, from
light weight, to 6 pounders, and four metal working hammers [Those I kept] plus an assortment of Craftsman stuff.

My guess is, even pricing the tools cheap at $1.00 each, that I have easily, purchased $250.00 worth of tools... plus the roller tool box.

This will be the last tool box that I will ever buy. I promise. Sure. yes..... :drink3: :drink3: :drink3: :drink3: :drink3:

Yeah, right. Sweet deal. :supz: What brand is it?

Just call you Toolio. :D

Sounds like the deal I got on my Craftsman box. I can't even begin to name all the tools in it - lots of different brands of vintage tools, with an emphasis on Plvmb. Now I've fallen in love with Plvmb Tools and I'm looking for them. I got it in a package deal with a 1939 air compressor at a yard sale for $100.

IMHO, the Snap-on K-60 is the Holy Grail of toolboxes and I must have one. So cool:

The father of a gal I know has a garage just like mine, but his addiction is old woodworking tools. The otehr day I mention my addictions & he promptly digs in a tool box & gives me a Proto 1425 body hammer. I mention the sought after 1427, he disappeared into the house & came back with this... 1936 Plomb tool catalog.

Plomb became Proto back in the day before Stanley took them over & it all went to crap.
