Well, I've been selling everything of value in my house, other than Digital camera gear and firearms, to invest in some nicer camera gear. I've been lusting after this for sometime and I had enough saved to order it while B&H was having a sale on it.
So here it is. Now I can hang out with the cool kids at that airshows!

I'm sure I want to know until I have to.

The camera along seems to be about $105 a year to keep going. I had to get the shutter replace this past month, I hope it will stay around for aonther 28,000 clicks.

Photography and the associated hardware seems to be the second most popular thing on WIX after planes. I used to do a bit, I stiil have two Leicas whch produce the most beautiful prints. I don't know much about the current stuff and computers. Paul had one at Centenial that was most bigger than he was. Is Cannon the top brand or is it all pretty equal?

That will be on my wish list forever because I'm not going to spend that much money on a lens. But still I'm happy with my Canon EF 24-105mm f4L IS USM :lol:

For me Canon (L series) is :prayer: but I have a Sigma EX 100-300 F4 for the telephoto zoom because Canon L is over my budget.
My camera is the Canon EOS 400D.

I'll wade in on the Nikon/Canon debate a bit here. I had a couple of friends that were pro field photographers. Both prefered Nikon when they were in situations and on projects where they might only get one chance for that award winning photo, or were going to be in extreme or isolated enviroments. For everyday and general all around use though, both would grab their Canon gear. The tv network that I used to work for had all Canon lenses for our video cameras and they did the job for the money and we got fairly long life out of them. The one thing going for them though, was that we had a Canon trained lens guy in the shop and he managed to rotate evey one of the lenses in for a complete teardown, inspection and adjustment at least once a quater, so he caught most of the problems before they became major ones.
Personally, I prefer my good old Nikon F3 to anything else, as it takes whatever abuse that I give it and keeps on going. Since I bought it new, the ony thing it has ever had to have done to it is have the shutter mechanism cleaned and adjusted one time. I've had the thing for thirty+years now and still don't want to give it up.

Best advice is buy the best quality that you can afford that will do everything that you want, as a minimum, and go from there.

Do you guys know about extending lens life? Every photo you take of a jet or a T-28 shortens lens life. A few snaps of something like a Fairey Gannet cna ruin one quickly. To extend life, focus on something graceful like certain Merlin fighters or maybe some of those ladies Doug has down in Dallas.

I am sorry Bill but I have to strongly disagree with you on the matter of "lens Life". A flat, boring, in-line will cause the lens to deform into that shape, while a nice, beautiful, exciting round engine will help the camera keep its nice round shape. Just my two cents worth. :twisted:
