Awesome writing Gary! I loved it - congrats on your experience. If on your way to in or out for Reno you should swing through Wendover (KENV). Let me know in advance and I'll see what we can do for you during your stop :D

Cracking stuff Gary, I love reading articles like that. And, hey, I like Cassutts almost as much as I like Tigercats!

I'm moving Gary's picture over to this thread. Also, cropped the first image to see how much I cold zoom in.

So once again Gary rounding the course at PRS, and then zooming in to check out the race face.

Naw, type away Gary!

Nice Pics! I think Gary might have a bigger Fan base at Reno this year than Rare Bear.

Yes Matthew, maybe we can start up Gary's "Maybee's Baby" fan club :D :D :D

I wish I could figure out a way to get to Reno this year, that'd be a blast! Sadly, I don't think it's likely, classes start 09/17. :(

Congradulations Gary!
Here's a few shots from out on the pylons.

Gary
Great story. Great accomplisment. Maybe you could write about the mentoring your getting from a guy who really helped shape my racing!
hopefully you can drag him back to reno.
thanks

I've thought about that, Dave, and I'd really like to do a write up on him. But you know he doesn't want anyone knowing that he's really a nice guy.

Oh, and bringing him back to Reno is highly unlikely...however, there may be some other plans in the works. ;-)

Victor or Warren,

What shutter speed are you using for these photos? If Gary is turning 3400 RPM, based upon the prop blur it must be over 1/2500 (if my calculations are correct)????

Calculator mode on:
Prop rotation = 75 degrees (guess)/360 degrees = .2083 revs

3400 revs/min * 1 min/60 sec = 567 revs/sec

567 revs/sec * 1/.2083 revs = 1/2722 sec shutter speed

bdk,

I'll check to metadata confirm, but, off the top of my head I was shooting 1/320 on Gary's image. A pretty conservative speed on my part, always a challenge to get the prop blur and keep the subject tact sharp.

And just to help you with the math, I was getting 3350 rpm (odd coincidence, huh) as I entered pylon one, and 3400 as I entered pylon 4 (pylons 4,5,& 6 are 50 ft. lower than 1,2,& 3, so there is a slight "downhill effect"). But who knows if that's what I'll be running come race time. ;-)

Hope this helps,
Gary
