B-25 Fertile Myrtle

Thu Mar 15, 2012 4:38 pm

Just got back from Patriots Point and the Yorktown carrier museum in Mt Pleasant ,South Carolina , across the river from Charleston. The two information people had no idea that it was originally equipped with a hanger bay catapult. It was removed in a renovation, just "Google" it up. The B-25 Mitchell bomber that was named "Fertile Myrtle" is now named "Fertile Turtle", why, I don't know. Didn't have as much time to see what I wanted to, but the time was well spent being around radial engines.

The B-25 has been taken down from the rafters in the hanger deck and is sitting on it's gear as God intended. It was over the snack bar and a stage replaced the snack bar , which moved to starboard side, hanger deck..From what I was told the Yorktown is rusting thru, too bad. Visited the Midway carrier museum in San Diego and they are protecting the hull will electric currents and sacrificial anodes or such things.
