Good day Fiftycal,

Thanks for the parts manual but it's unfortunately incomplete as it covers only section I.

Of course the gunsight is an N-3 as, until the Mark VIII and N-9, it was the standard sight for all AAF fighters. What makes the differences are the sightheads as all manufacturer designed and produced their own. The one on my photo was made by Bell.

Cordially

Laurent

Bell made lots of armament, .50's, sights you name it, even about 500 complete B-29's.

it might be a one off experimental piece?

Not a part number specialist so were part numbers starting with 15- specific to the Bell P-39 and P-63?

From the USAF Alphabetical Index of Technical Publications TO-0-2-1 dated April 1955, here is a document name/TO for the N-3:

Sight-Gun Type N-2, -2A, -3, -3A, -38--Installation, Inspection and Use 11F39-4-4-1.

I did a quick Google search but could not come up with a pdf.

If anyone wants a pdf copy of the above referenced USAF index, just give me a holler. Happy to send or post it here.

Bell P-39 data plates.
I have found what appears to be an actual data plate for a P-39-N-O in my collection of aeronautica.
The from looks to be stainless steel, but the back side looks to be brass.
If any one is interested, I will send them a picture to add to the knowledge base.
