I'm an aviation artist looking to buy a Beech 18 or C45 airframe to build a drivable car out of. It can have corrosion and be a bit beat up. I'm not to picky. The closer to Houston TX the better, but I am willing to drive just about anywhere. I don't need engines , wings, landing gear etc. I'm interested mainly in the fuselage. I drive to a lot of shows displaying my "nose art " pieces and I would like to build a car out of one of these to arrive in style. What do you have or know of? http://www.jasonbarnett.net I am also interested in a BT-13 or T28 Trojan airframe.

Hi Jason,

It has been done at least twice before, I enclose a copy of the Beech Car entry from my 2004 book, "Beech 18: A Civil & Military History."

Beech Car
"In 1984, Bob A. Pfeiffer of Encinitas, CA. mounted ex-USN UC-45J-N2850 on a 1979 Jeep Cherokee chassis. He removed the
wings and tail, and substituted one 360-cubic-inch displacement V-8 for the two P&W R-985s. He gave it a deluxe interior, and the result was a unique, attention-getting, fourwheel-drive “airplane-van” that was 22-foot long and seven-footwide. In 1995, Jim Petty, President of Air Vegas Airlines, bought the Beech Car as a promotional vehicle and repainted it in an Air Vegas scheme. In February 2001, David Warren of Southwestern Aero Exchange bought it and trailered it to his Beechcraft 18 parts facility in
Owasso, OK. It was renamed the “Beech Car called Friendship” and now sits in front of David’s business which has an inventory of 28
Beechcraft 18s and over 200,000 Beechcraft 18 parts.
A second Beech Car appeared in late 2002 in Engelberg, Switzerland. It serves as an advertisment for the Twiny Cafe.
Reportedly, the cafe owner’s brother is with an Austrian copmpany, FIAinvest, which owns the car. Color photos appear in the January
2003 issue of Flypast magazine and on the following website:
http://www.fia.at/il_capitano/il_capitano.htm"

I can provide other details and photos. DAvid died a few years ago but I believe that the car is still at his facility.

Good Luck, Bob Parmerter

Wow! It is good to see that I am not the only person that fell on his head as a child. I plan on building mine a bit differently though. My plan is to make it appear as if it just slammed down and tore the wings off and folded the landing gear. I want whatever I build to make people a little bit nervous as I drive past them. Thank you for sending me the link.
