Hi All
I have a buddy who recovered a ( shot down in combat) D model in 1981. He has the data plate and paperwork. What is something like this worth?
Thanks
Red

Does he have FAA registration paperwork? The data plate itself means nothing as far as an airplane is concerned. You can make a replacement data plate if you have FAA paperwork though.
As far as a piece of memorabilia it should be worth a few hundred dollars on eBay.

I didnt know P51's shot down in combat would have FAA registration paperwork to be "gotten" - very rare indeed

It was recoverd in 1981 in Europe by my friend who was career Air Force. He obtained the salvage rights from them, then went to the FAA. I hope that clears up your confusion.
