Movie Review: The Best Days of Their Lives

Mon Apr 17, 2017 4:00 pm

In 1948, there was a trio of amazing movies, ahead of their time. I've already talked about 12 O'clock high and The Big Lift. The Best Days of Their Lives follows the lives of three veterans severely affected by the war. One was a mechanic. He lost both arms. With prosthetic arms with hooks at the end, there wasn't much he could do with tools and such. Another had PTSD, which people were just becoming aware of in 1948, but didn't know what to do about it. Overall, a well writtten and performed movie. Four stars out of five.

I think you mean The Best Years of Our Lives made in 1946. A brilliant film and one still relevent today in terms of rebuilding ones life after traumatic events like a war.
It has a three hour running time and holds it all the way.

The aircraft graveyard at the end is Chino, California where P-39s and B-17s were scrapped.

The film is wonderful and a real classic. Well cast, scripted, directed and scored! 10 of 10 for me!
