This is an all star cast movie, but I'll get to that in a moment. The movie tells the story of three young soldiers who are supposed to ship out from New York City to the war (WW2), so they are allowed one night in town before they go. overseas. The Stage Door Canteen ( a real place) feeds the soldiers and gives them a night of entertainment. The soldiers end up having three nights at the canteen because their ship breaks down. During that time, they get emotionally involved with three of the volunteers at the canteen. The canteeen had a who's who of A list stars, Johnny Weismuller, Helen Hayes, Edgar Bergen, Gypsy Rose Lee and many more appear in this movie. There are scenes in this movie that will leave a lump in your throat, if not much more. Five stars out of five.
