Movie Review: The Amazing Mr. Limpet

Sat Apr 15, 2017 4:39 pm

In the early 1960's, the chemistry between Don Knotts and Andy Griffith made the Andy Griffith show a success. A studio noticed and signed Don Knotts to a five movie deal. This is one of the movies. At first, the movie was a box office bomb, but this was during the era of only 3 TV stations. The movie soon showed up on Saturday afternoon cinema and weekdays on Dialing for Dollars. The movie created a cult following, mostly among young viewers who who enjoyed the animation. The movie maee back it's money, and more. The premise: Limpet is a sad office worker in a loveless marriage. He wants nothing more than to be a fish. One day, he falls off the Atlantic City pier and gets his wish. He sooon befriends Crusty the crab (who wants to be left alone by EVERYONE), and Lady fish(who wants to spawn, spawn, and spawn).Limpet also discovers he has an unusual ability, to make a noise similar to an elephant. This serves him in warding off predators and U boats. Soon, Crusty and Limpet embark on a crusade to rid the ocean of German U boats. A great comedy, mainly for kids and the easily entertained-also for Don Knotts fans. Four stars out of five.

Love this movie. Was one of my favorites growing up. The combination of live action and animation captured my imagination. I recently acquired the DVD of this movie and will be introducing it to my kids soon.
