Movie Review: Troy

Fri Apr 14, 2017 2:40 pm

Until the late 19th century, academics disputed that there was a city named Troy, then an archeologist discovered the city-many layers of it. Von Schlieman proved that the Trojan War was actually fought over the placement of the city, and not fought over a beautiful woman-as Plato would have us believe. Troy was in a place to control the trade into Asia Minor, and also Asia itself. No doubt, the Trojans charged a fee and the Greeks didn't like it. Then, there is also the proven fact that Amazon warriors were hired as mercenaries for the battle, but arrived too late to affect the batttle. In any case, the movie focused on Plato's account and the looks of Brad Pitt. Hollywood likes to be realistic when it aligns with theirnpolitical beliefs, and therefore ignored te items I mentioned. There is a great story there, but so far, not told. I do give points or attempts at realism regarding uniforms and a few other things. I give the movie two stars out of five.
