first time i watched it was with my dad he grew up in the east end of London during world war two so he had a special attatchment to it and for that i would have to give it 5 stars and by the way i didn,t mind the romantic side bar in the story it lent a human aspect to the story that without would have left the movie rather stark and cold! plus sue was really hot!!!!!lol

Bob Stanford-Tuck was who I was thinking of...!

Today, 40 years after I first saw it in the cinema as a wide-eyed kid, I can pick faults a plenty in it, but, it will forever remain possibly my favourite film of all time.

One of my favourite aviation films ever!!!

In the 1960's, five times, the film industry told an epic story and used dozens of A list actors to do so, this is one of the effforts. This movie is an excelllent depiction of the air war over England in 1940-41. The movie corrrectly depicts how the Germans first went after the radar sites and the RAF airfields, then one night a German bomber goes off course and bombs London. The English return the favor by bombing Berlin. Hitler then has the Luftwaffe concentrate on London. This gives the RAF a needed break, but it also gives the English people a reason to give 100% to the war effort while causing sympathies with the Americans. The movie touches on PTSD a look at how people responded upon seeing maimed veterans. Also, at the start of the movie we see a pilot learning the ropes and being ridiculed by the veteran pilots. Late in the movie, he's the veteran pilot. A solid effort by the film industry. Five stars out of five.
