Every so often as I go through my old negs I come across one that strikes my fancy for some reason. This is a US Army Rockwell NU-9D Aero Commander, 57-6531, photographed in 1967. Prior to 1962 it was designated NL-26D. Only one of this variant existed.

It strikes me that this would be a fun not-especially-bank-breaking warbird.

Yeah... twins are cheaper because you've only got two of everything and you get a discount at WARBIRD DEPOT!

But if you REALLY wanna save money get four engines.

( I was gonna put a "But seriously" comment in, but the second cuppa joe ain't kicked in yet, and I can't think of one EXCEPT that IS a nice looking UTI bird!)

For REAL savings get a B-36 or a B-52...and THINK how many folks you can cram in it to take to airshows and all that gas money those folks can chip in to help defray costs even more....

Hmmm,
A friend of ours did a few low approaches at Plum Island a week ago in his Twin Commander 1000. Maybe we could talk him into putting stars and bars on it?
