This thing just popped in my head. A few years ago I saw a pic of a model of an air racer F7F. Sorry, I don't have it or I'd post it. The pic was from a model contest. IIRC, it was painted silver, had a sleek (single piece?) canopy/windshield, wide chord 3-blade props like a C-130A or Rare Bear, big spinners and scoops in the upper leading edges of the cowlings, kinda like an A-26 and was supposedly powered by R-3350s. It had a name and nose art on the nose but danged if I remember what, maybe something 'doll'. Anyway, it was supposedly based on a real plan someone had for racing an F7F. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

This guy would definitely be a contender -- for the worst visibility ever out of a warbird.

Thanks y'all! Yes, that is she. I think the last post's pic is the one I saw, but maybe not even all of the a/c. All 3 are great. I'd still be interested if she was a real idea or 'what-if'. I guess kinda like John Crocker's R-2800 powered P-51D.

Cool! I thought of the same thing when I first saw Rare Bear with the 3 blade prop! (no Really, I DiD! :D ) except mine had Clipped wings and a 2 peice canopy with the front one being a single peice. But that guy who made the model ( Man! Look at those TWO ..HUGE,.. BIG,.. ROUND....Spinners!! ) did a GREAT job and unlike myself, got off his butt and made it! :drink3: I guess I'll have to change mine to 4360s....Anthony

The whole nose would have to be replaced with a glass or plexiglass canopy for vision...

ok fellas heres a question for all you closet aerodynamicists, would this design have less intersectional drag than the Pond Racer? it looks absolutly stunning the old saying if it looks right it is doesn,t always work i know i like the clipped wing idea that was mentioned!!!

Question.....

What would be the effects of loosing an engine flat out in a turn at low altitude?...The one that makes you fall even more into the turn bank direction......
