Sril...

You are correct about ONT and CNO.

MHV is Mojave (out in the desert north of Los Angeles, CA.

MHV is Mojave (pronounced 'Mo-ha-vee', out in the desert north of Los Angeles, CA, previously a Marine Corps Air Station).

Thanks Sledge for the explanation, I wouldn't have found by myself this one, except with having a very very long look at the Californian FAA cards.

This airfields were reloading bases at the period of the pictures, or were they taken during airshows?
No more than 34 TBM to look at and the TBM tanker list is finished. It is longuer than I expected, but I hope to finish this week.

regards

Sril

All the flying shots were taken during actual fire missions.

The last year for CNO as a reloading base was 1969.

For ONT was 1977.

will still have to sort through several boxes labelled "Avenger" (read approx 400 slides from the 60's to 80's range) .... we might get lucky, but i can't promise a thing !

Hi,

K5083 Do you have a close up of the nose art on tanker #75? Any idea were they were taken? Can someone match the N#s and post them in the registry? How about can anyone match them up with current photos? How many still survive?

Thanks Mike

Mike, I always do that research on Dick's pictures. The data are as follows.

N9650C is 69374:
http://www.warbirdregistry.org/avengerr ... 69374.html

N3357G is 53858:
http://www.warbirdregistry.org/avengerr ... 53858.html

N3356G is (well, was) 85844:
http://www.warbirdregistry.org/avengerr ... 85844.html

N7229C was 86195:
http://www.warbirdregistry.org/avengerr ... 86195.html

Closeup of marking on #75. It appears that the buzzard is lighting a cigar on the forest fire which is the cause of the sparks/smoke trailing back along its belly.
