On Netflix.

Will watch it tonight.

CGI seems well made with a good storyline.

The crash scene is one of the most dramatic I have seen in a while.

I saw it, it is well done. One of those films that just reminds me that George Caron (Enola Gay tail gunner) was so right - war is a monster that does not care who gets hurt and killed.

A very touching film.

I would hope no one who visits this site would need reminding, but it is a very stark reminder that there was more to the war than neat aircraft, heroic feats, Glenn Miller dances and romanticized Robert Taylor-style artworks.

It was good to see some Mosquitos in flight...even if CGI.

It is currently on Netflix.
After I saw the mention of it here, I went to their App.
I had to do a search for it, it is not one of their more visible offerings.

I saw it about a month ago. I did not know this story so checked it out and it seems to be more or less accurate.

The CGI Mosquitos were amazing; definitely the high point of the movie.

I was on an "obscure war movies I've never heard of" kick at the time. Some others I saw:

Narvik
The Forgotten Battle
The Siege of Jadotville
Tigerland

I also watched the 4-episode miniseries All the Light We Cannot See, which is kind of like a Hallmark WWII movie--it's a beautiful story with a great happy ending, but most if not all the actual WWII stuff is pretty preposterous.

Also saw the 4-episode miniseries The Liberator, which was pretty darn good. It's kind of a low-budget Band of Brothers meets A Scanner Darkly, and I enjoyed it a lot.

I just finished Faraway Downs, a 6-episode miniseries. It's basically a Western set in Australia in WWII, again a Hallmark or Lifetime Channel story. A bit silly in places but again, a very good story and I was entertained.

All of these are on Netflix, except I think Tigerland might have been on Hulu.

Sorry about the thread creep...but to reply to Snake's comments about obscure recent war films, in June I posted this...

Amazon Prime is offering The Great War of Archimedes, a 2019
film which fictionalizes the decision to build the super battleship Yamato.
To quote Wiki...
"Admirals Yamamoto and Nagano believe that battleships are becoming obsolete, and advocate building a new aircraft carrier instead, but they are opposed by the Navy's old guard."

An interesting look into Japanese war preparations.

In the sole battle scene where the ship is sunk, lots of CGI SBDs, SB2Cs, and a PBY.

Japanese film makers seem to be on a a WWII kick. The war transformed the country and today's younger audience want to learn more than they are taught in school.

Faraway Downs is the Directors cut of Baz Luhrmanns film "Australia"..Pretty close to what happened up at Darwin but the Japanese didnt land at Horne Island.

I don't have Netflix, but I saw this movie last year and it was called "The Shadow in My Eye" not "The Bombardment." They've changed the name.

Could that be why it's hard to search?

Thanks, I did not know that. I thought it would have been pretty expensive for a Hulu miniseries.
