Not a quarter of the way there yet. sadly there isn't much for descriptions.
Luckily for WIX there's a few guys who really know their stuff and are sharing what they know about some of the photos.

Whoa! I think that's the first time I've seen that shot of the North American XB-28!

Thanks for posting these photos and the link Mark, a wonderful Christmas present. I think I saw a lot of these – the B-17 shots anyway – at the old archives in South Fern Street across from the Pentagon . . . but in high-resolution it’s a totally new experience. Wow!



So much more is revealed . . . for example this shot of what I believe is 41-24511, Wheel and Deal . . . it was originally in the 306th Bomb Group, who applied yellow rings around the fuselage cocardes on a bunch of their early aircraft. These were presumably overpainted when the aircraft joined the 91st Bomb Group’s 322nd Bomb Squadron.

Note that the XB-28 had the name "Ground Hog" applied but painted over!

I've never heard of it before - I am continually astonished at just how many prototypes and stillborn designs by well known manufacturers pop out of the woodwork on sites such as this. At a glance I thought it was a modified B-26...

Stumped me also, at first glance of the nose I was thinking captured Nakajima bomber, but was not quite right with the football antenna, windows, etc......Had forgotten about the XB-28

I keep thinking that somewhere there is another stash of war maneuvers photos. Nice seeing those O-47s in the Red Cross team markings.

A couple of comments on images in the last batch. The two of a crew outside a B-17 tail section with the individual code P and the second letter of the unit code L visible, must be LL - P. This is the code for the 401st BS of the 91st BG at Bassingbourn. The row of B-17s must be support aircraft for the Bikini Atoll A-bomb tests in 1946. The 58th Wing was part of the 509th Bomb Group, formerly 509th Composite Group.

I meant the last but one batch!
