Douglas TBD-1 Devastator BuNo 0324 ...

Sun Sep 17, 2023 4:42 pm

Below TBD-1 Devastator BuNo 0324, with Torpedo Squadron VT-6, 6-T-3, off the USS Enterprise, CV-6, located at Oakland, CA circa 1939. This TBD was later transferred to Torpedo Squadron VT-8 attached to the USS Hornet and was subsequently lost at the Battle of Midway on 4 June 1942 with 2 crew MIA. 51 Devastator crews that went into battle at Midway; only 7 returned. Out of 126 aircrew only 29 survived.

Not only in this photo is BuNo 0324, but I'm sure the other TBD's behind this one are also VT-8 Devastators. And most likely lost at Midway as well.
