I saw "T-34" this weekend, and this looks to be like that but in the air. There were some guffaw enducing plot elements that strained the ability to suspend disbelief. Nevertheless, it was fun to watch as a good "shoot 'em up." And the jingoistic "patriotism" was something. Nothing to do with reality, but certainly entertaining.

I'm sure I'll watch this one anyhow.

My wife does not follow this website nor any others, but does well know my interest in warbirds and related topics.

A few days ago she was cruising through Walmart checking on all manner of things and saw this video (Blu-ray Disc) and bought it for me/us.

We watched it last night. Good plot and flying scenes. Good human interests and romance. We both liked it.

This is a Russian production. It has a choice of Russian or English language audio with or without subtitles. The English with subtitles worked for us since some of the dialogue was a little hard to understand at times.

Why do the movie producers have every bomb dropped have the whistling noise? I’ve heard it even with artillery rounds coming in. The Germans did have “ whistles” on some ordinance, but not all. Just a minor irritant I have with movies.

Why do all crashing aircraft sound like Ju 87s with Horns of Jericho fitted? Why do all helicopters in films sound like Bell 47s? Why do turbo props in films cough into life sounding like radial engines?

Maybe the people who make films just need to get out a bit more often.

Because Bell 47s are the helicopters.
Everything else is a wannabe.

How many times have you heard squealing movie tires on dirt? They can't even get that right in a lot of movies.

This film is worth watching. I'd give it three out of five stars for the acting, but they do actually use a flying Stormovik for a number of air-to-air scenes, and the CGI of other flying stuff isn't bad. There's also some ground and taxiing footage of Yak-9s and Polikarpovs that I assume are good fiberglass replicas. Oh, and a real T-6 Texan that sneaks into a couple of scenes, for some reason.

I wondered about that too, after seeing the Bomber Experience video - as the dummy 500-pounders hit, they only made a little "whoosh" coming down.
