I'd love to feel like I could just afford to top her off!

Buying the Mars is like buying an elephant.
Sounds like fun to own, but the logistics of ownership are daunting to say the least.

Old airplanes are maintenance intensive.
Seaplane are maintenance intensive.
Large airplanes are maintenance intensive.

With this puppy, fuel costs will be the least of your concerns.

I wish both the sellers and buyers luck!

"The largest Allied Flying Boat ever manufactured" - does the Hughes H-4 not count?! It was a military contract!

I think they should use the word "production" rather than "manufactured". Incidentally I think the Saunders Roe Princess was also larger than the Mars but likewise didn't get beyond the prototype stage - one flew plus two further airframes were never completed. Not for a military contract though!

Kermit flew it a few years ago and seems to have an affinity for them. Wonder if he'll try to add the Mars to his collection?

I figured his "test drive" was to decide whether or not to do the deal.

I'll guess that the list of possible owners would be quite short. I sure hope it finds a good home, and that the new owner will keep it in operating shape... that way there's a chance that I might see it fly someday. or while we're dreaming, get a ride

They must have got around the Canadian Government's ban this time around?

7 Years ago, the transfer of the Phillippe Mars to the US was blocked by the government as they claimed it was of significant cultural property.........
