The RAAF P-40E (A29-90?) had its first engine run on November 12 and was taxiing by the end of the month. It may just squeak into the 2021 list!


Which airframe is this?


The Avspecs team is hard at work on a DH.89 but I really hope the Hawk isn't far behind in the queue. Pics I took in February last year:

I know this seems to be a really TOP SECRECT PROJECT by that I mean yes lots of people know about it. However as far as I know nothing is ever mentioned about it. That is Pat Harker's Twin Mustang. I did get to see it in person way back in 2005. In fact Pat Harker gave me the grand tour at Anoka back then. This was set up by the late Dick Phillips who was a friend of mine. Pat was very gracious. It is his airplane so if mum is the word so be it. Having said that sure would like to know the status of this project. Has to be really far along. I have heard thru other folks that it was either engine issues or prop issues. Can't remember which. Anybody out there no anything about this Twin Mustang?
Also I think Pat some time back bought a H- Model Project.

Pat’s Twin Mustang gets mentioned on here every so often, generally when the XP-82 is under discussion.

One that slipped my mind and I’m now watching on YouTube is Kermit Weeks’ Standard J-1, one of the Waldo Pepper movie machines - Kermit has gone to great lengths in his videos to prove it was the key airframe used - and I think that could fly next year. It certainly looks pretty far along in the latest workshop update with Ken Kellett.

NMUSAF in Dayton has a pencil target completion date of their A-1H Skyraider for static display in Oct 2022.

Bu No 134600 was a direct MAP transfer from the USN to the VNAF. It survived the Vietnam War and appeared in the Davis-Monthan boneyard sometime around 1999, along with an A-1E which is now on display at Hill AFB. The circumstances of the return of these two aircraft to the US is not fully known.

The restoration, originally scheduled for 2015, was stopped due to a lack of parts. The restoration team has been working hard sourcing parts, to include the game-changing option of 3D printing parts that are otherwise unavailable. Digital scans of original parts were/are being obtained through the Smithsonian, as well as through the generosity of warbird owners. The team is currently hand fabricating the key components of the ultra-rare Yankee extraction seat. Work will be required to remove/add antennas, lights, and other features unique to a USAF-modified A-1H. It is anticipated that the airplane will be configured with a full SAR combat load as if ready to launch on a SANDY mission.

This is fantastic news. It seems that work had stalled for a while and it's great to see an update! I will have to make another trip to NMUSAF when it's complete.

SB2C Helldiver project is fairly well advanced in Colorado Springs. Maybe a flyer in 2022?
