Station Wagon (Stinson 108 variant)
Sedan (Luscombe).
Coupe (Piper J-4).

Cadillac Brougham (Ryan...basis for the Spirit of St. Louis)
Opal Kadyet (Stearman military nickname and Culver).

Ooooh that one takes some contorting: the Opel was a Kadett; the Stearman was a Kaydet. Neither was a 'Kadyet'.

Aside from my mispelling/typo...I'll bet kadett is cadet in German. :roll:

Don't know why the military...or Boeing...spelled it Kaydet.
Probably to avoid making Culver unhappy.
Even back then firms protected trademarks.

I have heard the AF added "Fighting" to the F-16's name to keep Dassault ...maker of the Falcon business jets...happy.
Another example is Piper changing the name of the upgraded PA-16 (the PA-20) to Pacer from Clipper to placate Pan Am.
