They wanted to be able to operate it from REALLY rough fields didn't they?

Appropriate for the weight I'd guess: those four engines must be a significant amount alone.

Sorry but the gear reminds me of the movie "Amazing Stories. The Mission. 1985" where a B-17 ends up with cartoon landing gear.......Just saying!
