A long time ago I went to Oshkosh, and on the way home briefly stopped in Greybull. I was only there for a couple of hours, but it was a nice snapshot of that place as it was in the summer of 1991. I'm in the middle of a couple of scanning projects, but I'll put some Greybull stuff here as I go...

That might be the 119 now at the Hagerstown Aviation Museum.

You numbers guys will have to be patient with me with this stuff. I take pictures, and not notes. I also know little about H and P history -- I don't even know when the auction and liquidation were. I just had a great afternoon with lovely weather and cool airplanes. Totally quiet, nothing going on, just me and the airplanes...

The Hagerstown C-119 (N8093) was code 140.

The insignia and rudder marking are Spanish.

Well, just stop me if I get boring. I'm in the middle of scanning a lot of my old film material -- otherwise it's just gonna disappear, along with me. I'll really bore you when I get back to scanning racing material (this firebomber thing kind of happened by accident) -- I should be doing racing but this trip down firebombing Memory Lane has been fun...

Wait til I post a bunch of pictures of my all time favourite T-6 paint scheme, though -- you'll be wishing for firebombers then!

There was a similar ex-Spanish P-3 (actually an early ex-USN P3V-1 according to the dataplate) parked in Abilene up until 2003 where it was owned by the community college as a training airframe.
It went to California to Aero Union where I understand it was converted. If any Firebomber buffs know what happened to that airframe, I'd be interested in knowing.

I'm about a two day drive from Greybull (a short drive out here in the wide, wide, west) is there anything remaining there to see. Might be a nice driver this soring.

I think this is the end of Greybull. Seems like there should be more, but I'm not finding them. After Oshkosh and 3 weeks on the road I was running pretty short of film, anyway...

From what I hear, there's not much left. I think there's a little museum, often closed, and a single C-119 that was kept by the town, or county, or whatever, as an exhibit. I think I've read that the hangars have been taken over by some sort of industrial concern. I'd definitely check things out before making a significant drive to get there.

Plus, Montana has a speed limit these days. It was a lot more fun back then. Montana's the only place where I've ever actually driven more than one hundred miles in one hour. Now that was fun, but it's another time and another story.
