While looking for more entries for the post above, I came across an
article about a young man that reminded me much of myself. Ernest Robischon built up a collection of 1,000+ aviation books and 4,000 to 5,000 magazines - apparently including many historically significant and rare items - by 1940. I wonder what happened to his collection and if it survives today? (A similar effort called the
Institute of Aeronautical History that began around 1927 ended up at the Honnold/Mudd Library Special Collection and Archives.) Another
article I ran into details the collection of the Institute of the Aeronautical Sciences (today the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics), which, in 1941, was made up of 10,000 "aeronautical books, magazines, reports, pamphlets, photographs and clippings". Finally, very similar to the
Aeronautical and Space Serial Publications: A World List published in 1962 by the Library of Congress that was used to help create a
previous post, the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics published a
Bibliography of Aeronautics until at least 1936. This is not to be confused with an similar document published by the IAeS, in cooperation with the Works Progress Administration, also titled the
Bibliography of Aeronautics, that was completed in 1941. It is likely this is the direct result of the Aeronautical Index mentioned in the magazine article above.
