These photos, taken and shared by Planes of Fame pilot Chris Fahey yesterday on Facebook, show some of the progress that has been made on the restoration of Fagen Fighters' F6F-5 Hellcat BuNo.78645 (N9265A) at Fighter Rebuilders. This aircraft was formerly owned and displayed at the Yanks Air Museum.

"Every system and component gone through. All new hardware, a complete rebuild."

As can be seen in the way the wingfold sections and gear legs are finished, it will be completed in a 1945-era overall glossy sea blue paint scheme, but no word yet on final markings.

An additional photo by Geoffrey Hahn shared to the Friends of Planes of Fame Facebook page yesterday showing it now with the cowl ring/"face" and cowl formers installed.

Very exciting to see this one coming back together so quickly! Any idea what paint scheme it will be in?

I was really hoping it would stay in the tri-color scheme with the mouth on it - but in the end I'm excited for another airworthy Hellcat in the near future and whatever markings it's in - it will be beautiful... Mike

Even in overall GSB they could put the mouth back on her. Would be historically accurate, and even more so considering this is a -5 Hellcat. Not to mention it would drop dead gorgeous! Fingers crossed.
