Warbird Information Exchange

About a month ago, I made a visit to Empire State Aerosciences Museum in East Glenville, NY. It was a good place to stop to stretch my legs as part of a long road trip. My primary interest was in two types of aircraft I hadn't seen in person before, the RA-5C Vigilante and F3D Skynight. Another aircraft of interest is the Supermarine Scimitar, one of only three survivors. It was a nice museum to spend a couple hours at and I highly recommend it to anyone who might be passing through the Albany/Schenectady area.

I was a bit disappointed when I visited the USS Intrepid and the Scimitar wasn't there.
Also, being so rare I was happy that it was on display at such a well visited venue...(not that 99% of the visitors wouldn't care about a very obscure English type).

But looking on the bright side, at least near Albany it's away from the damp/salt laden environment.

Thanks so much for forwarding the info on the ESAM museum. They appear to have a great aircraft collection including one of my favorites...the F3D / F-10 Skynight!!

I was there in 2008. It's a small museum but a nice one. One of the neat, non-aircraft, things is a model of a Japanese carrier used in Tora Tora Tora

Need to revisit the museum and check out that Scimitar!

What's the story on that "mini-me" Concorde(?) nose next to the Skyknight?

The location is of historical significance as a large amount of General Electric jet engine research was accomplished here. There is a large photo displayed of a B-29 with a jet engine suspended from the bomb bay with all four engines feathered during an airshow. GE also had a fleet of every type of fighter, bomber and transport post-WWII for various projects.

So that is where some of the aircraft missing from the Intrepid went.
