I understand the nose differences between the G and F, and I can clearly see they removed the chin turret...my question was, did they change the nose glass?

I appreciate that it would be expensive to buy one or have one made, but I would imagine relatively easy to retrofit.

The nose glass itself appears to be the same one it wore as Madras Maiden. It is a G model, the F is a bit longer and has a parting line that is specific to F models and is not present here. There is a mold that exists for an F model nose, but it doesn't look like they wanted to go that route. It would be a direct bolt on as the general shape of Station 1 remained the same.

I'm still having trouble believing they even did this -- it's just fantastic as far as I'm concerned.

Please keep those pix coming! :supz:

I understand it landed at Page AZ with # 2 shutdown. Possible runaway prop, unable to feather

So I saw a post recently about how the Erickson P-51 would be also flying with the Liberty Foundation (giving rides I'm assuming). So what's the deal with that anyway? Is the Liberty group just "renting" out the Erickson aircraft for some undisclosed amount of money? I'm surprised they haven't considered utilizing the museum's authentic looking Allison powered 109 and repainting it in Franz Stigler's markings. How compelling of an experience that could be for passengers riding in a B-17 painted as "Ye Olde Pub", being told the story prior to boarding the aircraft, and then have a 109 painted as Stigler's plane, fly alongside and essentially reenact the famous event. Of course, repainting the P-51 in period markings wouldn't hurt either. Does anyone know what fighter groups (if any) were escorting the 379th BG that day? I would imagine they could sell seats for a higher price in the B-17 and P-51 if you packaged the whole thing as an experience.

Can you sell rides in a CAC CA-17?
Isn’t this the Erickson bird?

Kinda a conundrum, isn't it? It is officially registered with the FAA as a North American produced P-51D, no different than any other, with the serial number 44-14826 attached (though yes, the provenance of the airframe is that of a CAC-manufactured Mustang, A68-39).

I asked the same question on the Erickson FB post about selling rides in their 'P-51D', and got this response:
Quote:
Through the Liberty Foundation Exemption, they are allowed to sell rides in our Mustang.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

There's a very specific reason why all of this is the way it is. If it wasn't like this, Erickson/Liberty Foundation and nobody else would be able to legally sell rides in the aircraft. According to FAA rules, foreign built Mustangs are not allowed to sell rides in the United States.
