I'm sad to report that Australian warbird owner/pilot, Bruce Andrews, has just passed away.

Bruce was an airline pilot with a full career at Ansett Airlines from DC-3's to the B747. He also owned an ex-New Zealand Air Force Harvard 111 and an ex-Iraq Sea Fury which flew in Australian Navy colours of all blue and side number 115. Bruce and I owned the B-25J Mitchell that in 1983 we flew across the Pacific [no GPS] from Stockton, Ca to Sydney, Australia.
[movie is called 'Ghosts of the Sky']

Our old bird now resides with Yanks at Chino.

May he rest in peace...

Our B-25 once flew in Alaska with Merrill Wien and then Don Gilbertson and was in the movie "Joe the Forgotten Kennedy". WE bought it at Paine Field, overhauled it and flew it to Stockton, Ca to Aero Nostalgia hangar circa 1982. We flew [ got our type ratings from John Crocker] it around San Fran [hung out with Mike Boags] in company with John Paul [P-40E SU-E], Bob Reiser P-63, Lloyd Hamilton Sea Fury and Bob Love P-51.
Great days and never enough beer!

From there Bruce and I with two others flew her to Australia....what an adventure.

I'm sorry for the loss of your friend.
Sounds like you had some great times together and were able to do some great living.
I'd bet that is what he'd want you to celebrate.

Andy
