This morning, from the Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar in the UK, videos were posted of the Bf-109E WkNr.3579 (G-CIPB) making its first test flight in more than a year, this past November 2nd (Friday). After being sold from the Ed Russell collection in Canada, where it had last flown in 2010, the aircraft moved to England in 2015, but was not ready to fly again until 2017. In June 2017, the aircraft made one test flight, but a problem with the engine required the DB 601 to be sent out for more work/attention before it arrived back earlier this year. Hopefully all is good now and the aircraft can begin operating on a regular basis again as it did back in the Russell years. The aircraft is registered as being chartered to the Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar and, as far as I'm aware, the aircraft's actual owner has never been publicly unveiled (though I have a suspicion who it may be).

A couple videos were posted to the BHHH Facebook page this morning, and it really sounds good: https://www.facebook.com/BigginHillHeritageHangar

And for an update on currently active Bf-109's and Buchons as of today, all 11 of the following Bf-109's/Buchons have been flown in 2018:

- Hangar10's Bf-109G-6 D-FMGS
- Hangar10's Bf-109G-14 (converted Buchon) D-FMGV
- Hangar10's Bf-109G-12 (two-seat/converted Buchon) D-FMGZ
- Air Leasing's two-seat Buchon G-AWHC
- Air Leasing's Buchon G-AWHM
- Anglia Aircraft Restoration's Buchon G-AWHH
- Historic Flying Ltd.'s Buchon G-AWHK
- Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar's Bf-109E G-CIPB
- Erickson Aircraft Collection's Bf-109G-10 (converted Buchon) N90602
- Military Aviation Museum's Bf-109G-4 (converted Buchon) N109GY
- Flying Heritage & Combat Armor Museum's Bf-109E N342FH

Fantastic news. I hope she makes the rounds during the 2019 season - it would be great for UK audiences to see and hear an Emil.

Shame to not be able to see her anymore - really glad she is back flying. Kudos to all those involved!

There's two different Bf-109E's being discussed here now. The subject aircraft of this thread, WkNr.3579, based in the UK, has indeed now flown again. Shepsair's question is in regard to another fully restored, airworthy, Bf-109E, WkNr.1983, which is based in southern Germany. Some photos were posted online of it looking complete and undergoing taxi trials in the summer of 2017 (https://forum.keypublishing.com/filedat ... 1502448934), but I haven't seen or heard any updates since then/haven't heard anything about it having flown yet. If/when it does fly, it will be the third flying Bf-109E in the world (with a few more E-models undergoing restoration to join those ranks).

Thanks for the clarification!

Scott,

Sorry for the confusion. I knew it was about 3579 but was also looking at John's list.

regards,

Mark

Mark

No, 1983 hasn't flown. There were engine troubles, but that has now been overcome I believe. Might be waiting till winter passes....
