This probably isn’t news, but I wasn’t aware of it. This was posted today on the Fire Aviation website. Sorry about not posting the pictures, but I haven’t been on my laptop lately to get to a photo linking site. I’ll try to get that done soon. In the meantime, a link is better than nothing.

Hurricane Damage...2(?) years ago. I thought they would have been quicker getting the nose repaired.

The damage occurred only just last year, actually as a result of flying it out of Florida to try and avoid being damaged from hurricane Irma. The nose really suffered significant damage.

Did they nose it over or "just" bump something?

My understanding is that while being taxied it had a brake failure and collided with an immovable object.

This was the photo that was posted to Facebook last September, showing the damaged nose with flattened aluminum chin turret (photo taken by Tyler Sibley, at some point after the aircraft had arrived at the airport in Mississippi where it has remained since): https://scontent.ffcm1-2.fna.fbcdn.net/ ... e=5C39ABDD

I notice the tail gun has been removed as well... did this get damaged, or are they backdating it? I heard rumor they were interested in creating Outhouse Mouse, and I suppose getting a stinger tail on there would help with that. But, if it was damaged during the same incident, that would be another story altogether.

The tail was damaged and is/was being repaired. There were a few pics of this and the new chin turret on Facebook somewhat recently. The work looks amazing all polished and is somewhat of a shame that it will all be painted camo.

Outhouse Mouse has been all but confirmed. Personally, I would love to see her stay in the same scheme, especially since the 91st is already so well represented, including 2 veterans. But, I guess its a small price to pay to see another Fort in the air.

About a decade ago (possibly longer), a B-17 under restoration was going to fly as Outhouse Mouse. Instead, If flew with a different scheme.

Which ship was that?

That was aircraft which became "Liberty Belle". Of course with the continually advancing pace at which time is passing (at least as it seems), that was more like two decades ago now.
